BTW Presents...
Kim Ammann Howard, Director of Evaluation and Organizational Learning at BTW, drew on BTW's recent work to organize two sessions for the 2006 annual conference of Grantmakers for Effective Organizations.

Learning Communities: Enhancing Learning for Greater Impact” explored different models of learning communities and the ways in which learning communities enhance grantee and funder capacity. Panelists included Gale Berkowitz of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation; Lesley Williams of the Forbes Funds; and Julia Dawson of the South Carolina Association of Community Development Corporations.

Grantmaker Support of Nonprofit Coaching” presented findings from the Coaching and Philanthropy project, in which BTW examined the philanthropic community’s support of coaching for grantees and the readiness of the coaching field to provide services to nonprofits. Chris Kwak from the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, a key partner in the project, joined Kim in presenting the session, along with Virginia Kellogg from Leadership that Works and Cynthia Chavez of LeaderSpring.

In April 2006, BTW developed a funders briefing for PACE-Philanthropy for Active Civic Engagement at the annual conference of the Council on Foundations. In the briefing on Statewide Efforts to Expand Civic Engagement, Rutt Bridges, Founder of Colorado’s Bighorn Center for Public Policy, discussed the Center’s bi-partisan leadership development program and Steve Patrick, Director of Youth and Emerging Initiatives at the New Mexico Community Foundation, described the Foundation's initiatives designed to engage youth and nonprofit organizations in policy work.
